ISP to honor Detective Bucher with promotion and Life-Saving Award

COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho — The Idaho State Police (ISP) will host a promotional ceremony and Life Saving Award presentation honoring Specialist Travis Bucher on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at 3:00 p.m.

Specialist Bucher will be promoted to Detective and recognized for his decisive actions during a medical emergency that occurred on May 26, 2025, in Bonner County.

While on patrol in the Sagle area, Specialist Bucher monitored other agencies’ radio traffic and overheard a report of CPR in progress at a nearby residence. Recognizing the location, he immediately responded and arrived within 2 minutes. Upon entering the residence, he found an unresponsive adult male without a pulse. Specialist Bucher took control of the scene, deployed his issued Automated External Defibrillator (AED), administered shocks as advised by the device, and performed CPR until fire and EMS personnel arrived. The patient was transported to the hospital, admitted to intensive care, and ultimately survived a major medical event.

Medical personnel who were on scene later credited Specialist Bucher’s “quick response and lifesaving measures” with the man’s survival. His calm demeanor, professionalism, and adherence to training exemplified the highest standards of public service and emergency response.
