ITD, ISP troopers partnered to stop unbelted and aggressive drivers
October 29 – November 14

The Idaho Transportation Department partnered with the Idaho State Police and other law enforcement agencies across Idaho to make highways safer by funding high visibility seat belt and aggressive driving patrols October 29 – November 14, 2010.

During this campaign, Region 4 Idaho State Police troopers focused on enforcement of speed limits and traffic laws & citing those drivers who were unbelted. Here is a summary of the results:

Total Contacts – 670
DUI Arrests – 8
Seat Belt / Child Restraint Citations – 45
Felony Arrests – 3
Fugitives Apprehended – 5
Suspended Driver Licenses – 21
Uninsured Motorists – 54
Speeding Citations – 308
Follow Too Closely Citations – 8
Disregarded a Signal Citations – 2
Failure to Yield Citations – 13
Reckless Driving Citations -4
Drug Arrests -15
Underage Alcohol Arrests – 2
Other Various Contacts – 19

"Drivers must recognize what aggressive driving is, understand the risk, and know they will be ticketed if they choose to drive aggressively," Lt. Haight explained.

Those occupants wearing a seatbelt during a speed-related crash, increase their chance of survival greatly," says Lt. Haight.
