Lt. Colonel Sheldon Kelley to Retire After 27 Years of Distinguished Service

MERIDIAN, Idaho —The Idaho State Police (ISP) announces Lieutenant Colonel Sheldon Kelley’s retirement after 27 years of exemplary service to the state of Idaho. Beginning his career in 1997 as a resident trooper in Gooding County, Kelley has expertly navigated pivotal roles in Patrol and investigations, culminating in his recent tenure as Chief of Operations. In this capacity, he has overseen statewide law enforcement, Forensic Services, and the Bureau of Criminal Identification.

“Lt. Colonel Kelley’s deep commitment to the state of Idaho have defined his distinguished career,” said Colonel Bill Gardiner, Director of ISP. “His influence on the Idaho State Police and his contributions to the safety and well-being of our communities will be felt long into the future.”

Kelley has achieved impressive milestones throughout his distinguished career, including graduating from the esteemed FBI National Academy, Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command, and the FBI Command College. His leadership extended to pivotal roles within the Idaho Traffic Safety Commission and ASCIA Executive Board (Association of State Criminal Investigations Agencies). He also serves as the President of the Idaho Peace Officers Memorial Board, leaving an enduring legacy within the law enforcement community.

Kelley reflected on his retirement, saying, “My years with the Idaho State Police have been an extraordinary privilege. The relationships I’ve built, the experiences I’ve gained, and the unwavering dedication to protecting the people of Idaho I have witnessed by those who serve have shaped me personally and professionally. I will carry these experiences and the bonds I’ve formed with me for the rest of my life.”

The Idaho State Police extends its deepest gratitude to Lieutenant Colonel Sheldon Kelley for his 27 years of dedicated service to the agency and the state of Idaho. His unwavering commitment to public safety, leadership in advancing law enforcement, and tireless efforts to protect our communities have made a lasting impact. Throughout his distinguished career, Lt. Colonel Kelley has exemplified the highest professionalism, integrity, and service standards. We thank him for his remarkable contributions and wish him the best in his well-deserved retirement.

Colleagues, friends, and community members are invited to celebrate Lt. Colonel Kelley’s remarkable career at a retirement celebration on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at 2 p.m. at ISP Headquarters at 700 S. Stratford Dr, Meridian.
