On December 11, 2018 at approximately 11:20 a.m. a minor injury crash occurred on I90 at milepost 30, on 4th of July Pass. A blue 2009 Chevy Silverado driven by Skyler Sauer, 26, of Smelterville, Idaho was traveling eastbound negotiating a curve when Sauer failed to maintain his lane striking the right jersey barrier. The vehicle continued to rotate around and came to rest with its rear end on top of the jersey barrier. Sauer was not wearing a safety seatbelt and refused medical treatment on scene. Sauer left the scene by way of personal vehicle. A short time later Sauer was found unresponsive at his residence and was transported to Shoshone Medical Center by ambulance where he was pronounced deceased. His death was determined to be from a pre-existing medical condition and not from injuries sustained in the crash.
