Motorcyclist Arrested for Reckless Driving After 110 MPH Interstate Ride
MERIDIAN, Idaho – On Friday morning, July 11, an Idaho State Police (ISP) trooper arrested a motorcyclist for reckless driving after observing the rider traveling at speeds exceeding 110 miles per hour on Interstate 84 during heavy morning commute traffic.
Just before 8:00 a.m., ISP Motors Corporal McConnell was patrolling eastbound on I-84 near milepost 45 in Ada County when he observed a red 2007 Yamaha YZFR6 traveling westbound at an extremely high rate of speed. The rider was weaving through congested traffic without signaling and maneuvering through dangerously narrow gaps between vehicles, posing a significant danger to commuters.
Corporal McConnell initiated a U-turn and paced the motorcycle between 110 and 115 miles per hour as it continued westbound, aggressively changing lanes and violating multiple traffic laws. When emergency lights and siren were activated near milepost 42.5, the rider did not immediately yield but eventually stopped near milepost 41.
The rider, a 19-year-old, was arrested for reckless driving without incident. The case has been referred to the Ada County Prosecutor’s Office.
“We’re serious about addressing this ongoing roadway safety concern,” District 3 Patrol Captain Michael Winans said. “Motorcyclists, like all drivers, must obey the law. Excessive speed, unsafe lane changes, and weaving through traffic pose a serious risk to everyone. ISP will continue taking enforcement action to prevent tragedies before they happen.”
ISP reminds all motorcyclists that riding is a privilege that comes with significant responsibility. High-performance motorcycles are unforgiving machines, and a single reckless decision at high speeds can have life-altering consequences. It’s crucial to prioritize safety riding.
