On May 22nd, 2018, at approximately 1820 hours, a commercial motor vehicle crash occurred on west US 12 near milepost 76.6 in Idaho County, Idaho. The crash occurred in the construction zone just east of Kooskia, Idaho. A 2017 Mack truck tractor driven by Kenneth E. Kazda, 43, of Lewiston, was hauling a 53 foot Western trailer traveling west through the construction zone. As Kazda negotiated the curve established by the traffic cones, the trailer's tires drove onto the soft road edge, entered the ditch, and the trailer tipped onto its right side. The trailer came to rest against the hillside leaving the Mack truck tractor partially blocking the westbound lane. The trailer was fully loaded with wood chips. Kazda was wearing his seatbelt. US 12 was blocked for approximately 2 hours. The investigation is continuing.
