We are dedicated to saving lives by bringing the latest technology, training, education, equipment, and support to the men and women of the Idaho State Police.
Our primary focus is developing our sworn workforce to confidently and competitively meet the challenges of tomorrow. The Training Section ensures the delivery of professional, relevant, and cost-effective training to department employees and local law enforcement agencies to assist them in meeting mission demands.
Training
All new troopers begin their careers in the Advanced Training Class (ATC), a demanding 22-week academy held in Meridian for recruits who hold basic POST certification. ATC bridges the gap between certification and active duty, preparing recruits for the realities of statewide law enforcement service.
Recruits complete approximately 1,098 hours of training covering traffic enforcement, criminal investigations, officer safety, ethics, human relations, and essential support functions. Instruction combines classroom learning, physical conditioning, and hands-on practical scenarios that reflect real-world policing across Idaho. The curriculum is continually updated to reflect changes in law, policy, and community expectations.
Training is led by the Training Section, which ensures consistent standards, professionalism, and readiness. Graduates leave the academy prepared to serve with integrity, discipline, and confidence as troopers with the Idaho State Police.
