Sara Breckon promoted to lead Bureau of Criminal Intelligence

MERIDIAN, Idaho – Idaho State Police has named Sara Breckon the Bureau Chief of the Bureau of Criminal Identification (BCI).

Breckon brings 12 years of experience with Idaho State Police BCI to the position, having advanced through increasingly responsible roles within the bureau, beginning as an Audit and Training Specialist and most recently serving as Audit and Training Team Supervisor.

“Sara has a thorough understanding of BCI and has consistently shown the kind of judgment, technical expertise, and leadership necessary to assume greater responsibilities,” said Colonel Bill Gardiner, director of the Idaho State Police. “Just as important, she works well with others and has the respect of both those she leads and works alongside. Sara built a career around service, and I’m certain she will serve the bureau, our partners, and the people of Idaho well in this new role.”

During her career with ISP, Breckon worked extensively in criminal justice information systems, training, auditing, emergency alerting, and government operations. She is an NLETS Certified Trainer and POST Certified Instructor and is certified through FEMA as an Integrated Public Alert and Warning System Alert Originator and Administrator, authorizing her to issue AMBER, Blue, and Endangered Missing Person Alerts statewide.

Breckon has completed the FBI-LEEDA Leadership Institute Trilogy and Idaho’s Certified Public Manager program. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology Management and certifications in DOJ Grants Financial Management and Idaho State Governmental Accounting Essentials.

Before joining ISP, Breckon served as the Iraq Lead Communications Technician on a U.S. Department of State contract, managing satellite, ground, mobile, and airborne communications systems. Her public service also includes 18 years in the Idaho Army National Guard, with deployments supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, and five years in the U.S. Navy as an Electronics Technician.

As Bureau Chief, Breckon will lead BCI and its work supporting criminal justice agencies throughout Idaho through criminal history records, fingerprint identification, criminal justice information systems, and other statewide services.
