On June 3, 2017, at approximately 3:25 a.m., the Idaho State Police investigated a single-vehicle, fatality crash on Trail Creek road, near Foothill Blvd, Pocatello.

James Smith, 19, of Pocatello, was driving a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee on Trail Creek road when it went off the left shoulder, back over into the lanes, and off the right shoulder where is overturned down an embankment.

Smith was wearing his seatbelt and was not transported. Seven juvenile passengers are believed to have not been wearing seatbelts and were transported via ground ambulance to Portneuf Regional Medical Center. One juvenile was ejected from the vehicle and succumbed to their injuries at the scene.

Notification has been made to next of kin.
