Two arrested following I-15 pursuit and Taser deployment
IDAHO FALLS, Idaho — At approximately 2 p.m. Feb. 3, the Idaho Falls Police Department requested assistance from the Idaho State Police while attempting to serve a warrant on a vehicle at a rest area near milepost 101 on Interstate 15 in Bingham County.
ISP attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver fled northbound on Interstate 15. Troopers successfully deployed spike strips; however, the vehicle continued northbound on three flat tires. The driver exited and reentered I-15 at milepost 116, continued northbound, and exited again at the Broadway exit, where the vehicle ran a stoplight, drove through a ditch, and came to rest in a nearby parking lot.
After the vehicle came to a stop, the driver ran from the vehicle. Following a brief foot pursuit, ISP deployed a Taser, and the driver was taken into custody.
During the pursuit, the driver was observed throwing narcotics from the vehicle while traveling northbound on the interstate. The narcotics have been recovered.
The driver faces the following charges:
- Trafficking fentanyl
- Trafficking methamphetamine
- Destruction of evidence
- Felony eluding
- Active warrant out of Bingham County
The female passenger was also arrested and charged with trafficking fentanyl. This incident remains under investigation by the Idaho Falls Police Department. Any additional information will be released by their agency.
