Two Vehicle Fatality Crash in Bear Lake County
OVID,Idaho – The Idaho State Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash that occurred on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at 4:58 PM, northbound on US89 at mile marker 21.5 in Bear Lake County.
A 2019 GMC Savana, driven by a 72-year-old male from Montpelier, was traveling northbound on US89. A 2022 GMC Yukon, driven by a male juvenile from Ovid, was traveling southbound on 89. The vehicles collided head on.
The driver of the Savana succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash. The driver of the Yukon was transported by ground ambulance to the local hospital.
Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts. Both north and southbound lanes were completely blocked for approximately 3 hours.
Idaho State Police were assisted by Bear Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Bear Lake County Fire Department, Bear Lake Search and Rescue, Bear Lake Ambulance service
This crash is still under investigation by the Idaho State Police.
