Vehicle Versus Train Fatality Crash, north of Sandpoint, Idaho

Idaho State Police is investigating a vehicle collision that occurred on December 28, 2025, at approximately 2:00 p.m., at the intersection of West Selle Road and North Boyer Road, north of Sandpoint, Idaho.

A 63-year-old-male, from Sandpoint, Idaho, was travelling westbound on West Selle Road in a white 2008 Nissan Titan when he struck a northbound moving Burlington Northern Santa Fe train. As a result of the crash, the Nissan Titan was pushed a short distance off the roadway, and the train came to a stop after initiating the brakes. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and succumbed to his injuries on scene. No seatbelt was worn.

The road was blocked due to the stopped train for approximately four hours.

Next of kin has been notified. The investigation continues.
