From the Bureau of Constabulary in 1919 through the creation of ISP in 1939, our dedication to the people of Idaho remains unwavering: to serve and protect Idahoans’ lives, property, and constitutional rights.
Headquartered in Meridian, Idaho, ISP serves a population of over 1.9 million through six regional districts. Over 700 highly skilled and dedicated professionals, representing the best the state offers, serve the people of Idaho with distinction. Their professionalism instills confidence in their abilities, ensuring the safety and security of Idahoans.
Each district is home to Patrol and Investigation divisions that protect the people in their respective geographic areas. The Patrol Division, with distinctively marked vehicles, aids motorists, educates them about traffic safety laws, enforces the rules governing our roads, responds to and investigates crashes, and assists local law enforcement. The Investigation Division, staffed by detectives in all six districts, provides comprehensive law enforcement services to the public and various county, municipal, and federal law enforcement agencies. Detectives conduct both proactive and reactive investigations throughout the state, with a strong focus on preventing crimes. They investigate a wide range of crimes, including homicides, sexual assaults, human trafficking, drug trafficking, fraud, and officer-related critical incidents. In addition to serving the growing population of Idaho citizens, detectives conduct all felony investigations at the major Idaho Department of Correction facilities.
Additional uniformed enforcement divisions include the Commercial Vehicle Safety Section, the Alcohol Beverage Control Bureau, and State Brand Inspectors, all of which provide vital law enforcement services in cities and towns across Idaho.
ISP collaborates with all state and federal law enforcement levels to investigate crimes, ensure public safety, regulate commerce, and support other agencies’ efforts to keep Idaho safe. Thanks to the dedication of every ISP member, Idaho families can grow and thrive in secure and protected communities, knowing they are in good hands.
