The Breath Alcohol Unit supports law enforcement agencies by overseeing the certification of breath-testing instruments and operators and providing standardized training for breath alcohol specialists across Idaho. The unit ensures instruments are accurate and properly maintained, develops training materials and protocols, and evaluates new technologies for field use. Personnel also provide expert testimony on instrument performance, breath-testing procedures, and the physiological principles underlying alcohol measurement, thereby supporting the reliability and defensibility of breath alcohol results.
